CITY HISTORY


The history of waterfall Mine opened in 1853, when Ignatius of Costa Rao and his wife Rosa Maria, idealize the Town of St. John the Baptist, later sponsored by Cel. João Pinto da Fonseca. Tradition says that Ignatius and Major Felix da Mota, by mutual agreement had settled the edification of the Church and giving Heritage site, now known as the Ribeirão Rao, undone by the intervention of Dona Rosa Maria, which created a discord between the two men. The neighborhood that wins with two churches, each one being built by one of the opponents on their land.

In 1870 was built the new church of St. John the Baptist, has operated as a matrix until 1918.

In 1871, created the District of St. John the Baptist of Falls, whose name has been adopted by some because of the many waterfalls in the River Sapucaí-Mirim, and others, in fact be the farm's founder called the Farm Waterfalls.

The district was created a municipality in 1923 and installed on the 1st. June 1924. That's when the took the name of Falls Village. In 1938 his name began to Waterfalls in 1943, by state decree was changed to waterfalls and in 1948 Mr Wilson Beraldo, introduced amendments changing the name of waterfalls to Cachoeira de Minas, adopted on 27 December 1948. During its historical path, because of its potential for agriculture and livestock the municipal territory was disputed by the neighboring municipalities who wanted their annexation.

TOURISM

The town of Cachoeira de Minas is a good option for those seeking to make sports in contact with nature. It has a wide variety of rivers like the Sapucaí-Mite with its waterfalls, good for canoeing, and river Itaim, watershed and Vargem Great for sport fishing, where fish can be found as the Knife, Bagre, Curimbatá , Traíra, among others.

The mountainous geography of the region is also used by many for the practice of sports.

In Monte Belo, is 18 km from the city, there is a clue for Hang Gliding and Paragliding, which is located some 1450m. altitude, and a wall of rock 35 meters for performance climbing and abseiling. Several lookouts provide panoramic views to the towns of Conception of Diamonds, Pouso Alegre, Pedra do Bau (San Bendo the Sapucai) and Highway Fernão Dias.

The first forum was held on October 10, 2003 in the State School Canon José Eugenio de Faria. 37 people attended, the attendance is with the Heber José de Oliveira, founder of the forum. This forum were exposed several slides on global environmental problems and Agenda 21, National and the creation of Local Agenda 21. We also discussed problems of our city, such as garbage collection, sewage treatment, urban pollution of the district budget Sapucaí and its riparian



OBJECTIVES

I - protection, preservation and conservation of the urban and rural environment, and promoting sustainable development;

II - the promotion of economic and social development and combating poverty;

III - the promotion of culture, defense and preservation of historical and artistic;

IV-development studies and research, alternative technologies, production and dissemination of information and technical and scientific knowledge relating to the activities mentioned above;

V - experimenting with new socio-productive models of new and alternative systems of production, trade, employment and credit to promote development socially just, ecologically appropriate, economically viable, with emphasis on multiple use of the small family unit rural ecotourism and management of forest resources;

VI - the preservation, restoration, protection and sustainable development of watersheds aiming at conservation of water resources;

VII - to promote the rational use and improvement in quality and quantity of water resources;

VIII - the development of programs and projects aimed at the disposal and treatment of solid, liquid and gaseous;

IX - encourage the creation of parks, public and private inter alia, for maintenance, conservation and preservation of biodiversity, contributing to the protection of natural heritage, cultural and biological diversity in ecosystems;

X - the development and implementation of projects for development of environmental education;

XI - the thematic events related to the environment to promote the conservation and preservation, as well as other related ecotourism and adventure sports;

XII - to promote activities that contribute to the balance of ecosystems, maintenance of biological diversity, preservation of rare, endemic or declining populations, especially those threatened with extinction;

XIII - cooperate with governmental and private institutions in the formulation of public policies that relate to the goals of AVASC;

XIV - organizing courses, seminars, workshops, lectures, exchanges, internships, and other forms of education, interpretation and environmental education in the communities, schools, businesses, public agencies or other civil society organizations, to provide an awareness for the preservation, conservation, restoration and stewardship of the biocultural;

XV - propose Popular Action, Public Civil Action or any proceedings necessary to protect the environment, its restoration and its degrading punishment;

XVI advise and provide consultancy services in planning, evaluation and implementation of projects to public and private organizations, all consistent with achieving the objectives set out herein;

XVII - encouraging volunteering;

XVIII - develop cultural activities, music, theater, members, artistic, through their departments.
